Student Leadership Consortium
Where Student Board Members Grow, Lead and Connect
When students step into their role as ex-officio board members, they’re stepping into leadership. The Student Leadership Consortium from Nassau BOCES is more than a training — it’s a yearlong experience designed to grow their confidence, deepen their understanding of school governance and connect them with peers across the region. This isn’t about preparing for a seat at the table. It’s about preparing to use it.
We combine immersive, hands-on experiences with long-term support to build the habits and mindset of great board members — clarity, confidence, collaboration and civic engagement.
Throughout the year, students will:
-
Learn how school boards function and why their role matters
-
Develop public speaking, collaboration and critical thinking skills
- Build empathy and ethical reasoning through peer interaction
- Gain tools to represent their peers with purpose and professionalism
- Stay connected with student leaders across Nassau County
