Students explore examples of the different stages of plant growth from a grassy field to a climax forest.

The geological composition of Long Island's North Shore beach is explored with emphasis on the masses of clay, sand, gravel, rock and boulders left by glacial movement.

Caumsett's pond is the perfect site for studying a freshwater ecosystem. Students will collect organisms to identify using a "key" and assess the health of the pond using a biotic index. This program is often used in conjunction with a seashore program for comparison.

Caumsett's 90 acre saltmarsh allow for an in depth study of this marine ecosystems. Saltmarsh hikes at low tide, and/or comparisons to the north shore beach is a popular program request. 

Caumsett's 2 mile-long north shore beach allows students to study the rich biodiversity of this marine habitat. 

Through simple measurement and experimentation, students are given the basic tools to interpret the atmosphere and its effect upon local weather.
